I’m not sure where it came from, but I have quite a liking for old-school epics, such as Spartacus, Nicholas and Alexandra and The Ten Commandments. So having not seen Lawrence of Arabia, but hearing a lot about it from my mum, I went to a screening of it last weekend, which I thoroughly enjoyed, so today’s Superhero Saturday is dedicated to the man himself.
The film is based on the life of real-life English officer T.E. Lawrence and his time in Arabia during the First World War. Admittedly the film really is an epic at about three hours long, but Peter O’Toole owned the show as the titular role. He had superhero-blonde hair, brilliant blue eyes and he was brave, witty and slightly doolally. He was also very good acting wise in his portrayal of a man torn between his duty to his country and his new-found friendship with Sherif Ali ibn el Kharish and the Arabs.
The word is that a remake is being planned, with
Edward Cullen Robert Pattinson as the lead, but I hope this isn’t the case. Lawrence of Arabia is a great film and best left as is, but if a remake is given the go ahead, I hope they find a better choice than R-Pattz. In fact, allow me to make a suggestion:
Peter O’Toole. Right there.
To finish off, here’s the trailer, which is an epic in itself – four minutes long!
